Vision Correction

Dr. Horsley and LVI

Wilson Horsley, MD is the medical director for LASIK Vision Institute (LVI) of Boston, a specialty laser surgery center located in Burlington, MA. He is one of several physicians who perform the surgeries on that company’s patients. He also operates in the LVI facility on his own, private patients.

Dr. Horsley’s private patients receive a full spectrum of care carefully overseen by the doctor himself – from beginning to end. That is, every exam, all counseling, the surgery, the follow-up – all stages of evaluation, treatment and care – are done or directed only by Dr. Horsley and/or his practice’s associate Nilesh M. Sheth, MD. Dr. Horsley is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist. Dr. Sheth has trained two years as a cornea subspecialist and has worked in a refractive practice.

Dr. Horsley’s private practice is long and distinquished. He is the latest in a familial line of ophthalmologists (Eye MD’s) who have served the area. His multi-service practice extends way beyond laser vision correction. He sees private patients in his office in Stoneham, and provides other surgical treatments at his own surgical center also in Stoneham.

As you might expect, the cost for Dr. Horsley’s higher level of personal care and service for laser vision correction procedures is more than the boldly advertised rates presented by LVI in newspaper advertisements. While the level of care and treatment available through LVI is quite good, it is different than that available as a private patient of Dr. Horsley. In addition, not all vision problems can be corrected through the lower-cost laser services. And, in fact, LVI’s premium treatment offerings are priced nearly the same as private care with Dr. Horsley.

One way costs are kept low for the dramatically low-cost offerings at LVI is by having preparatory and follow-up care done by optometrists. Optometrists, while very skilled, are not licensed as surgeons and are not trained as MDs. The American Academy of Ophthalmologists (AAO) recommends that for best results, post-operative care should be conducted by the operating surgeon or a surgeon of equal abilities to the operating surgeon.

Horsley Eye Center’s private patients are cared for by an ophthalmologist (an eye MD) from start to finish.

One reason Dr. Horsley works with LVI is to earn preferential pricing for use of their facility. This savings is passed on to patients. Dr. Horsley’s private patients who are treated there, of course, receive his direct care the same as if their surgery were done in downtown Boston or another facility.

Please ask Dr. Horsley or Dr. Sheth or any staff of Horsley Eye Center if you have any questions or concerns about procedures, equipment, examinations, etc.
